Bridgestone bids F1 adieu

Bridgestone has announced they will withdraw from Formula 1 at the end of the 2010 season.

Hiroshi Yasukawa, the company's motorsport director, stated that their reason for pulling out of the sport was "the company's need to redirect its resources towards further intensive development of innovative technologies."

Bridgestone will continue as partner and tyre supplier to the GP2 Series and GP2 Asia Series, and will remain sole tyre supplier in MotoGP until 2011.

Bridgestone has been a part of Formula 1 since the 1997 season and has been sole tyre supplier in F1 since 2008.
