Rubber-burning has got a new partner in crime. The next generation BMW M6 is now out, sporting what many are calling one of the greatest motors of our time. A 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with nearly 560 bhp available at the mere prod of a throttle does sound spectacular, but what is even more so is the fact that it borrows it from the mighty new M5, a car that is already threatening to usurp the super-saloon crown.

If 560 bhp of thrust isn't enough, then 69.1 kgm of twisting force will leave you awestruck. All of which results in the M6 logging 4.2 seconds to 100 kph in coupe-guise or 4.3 seconds when you are behind the wheel of a droptop. Both can transport four persons in great comfort, though if you want a bit more room there's always the new 6-Series GranSport. Or the M5 for that matter.

On the outside, the M6 sports traditional design cues – a larger airdam, bigger scoops, a bulging bonnet, larger five-arm double-spoke wheels with fatter tyres, new M-style mirrors, a revised rear bumper and four stainless-steel tailpipes. There's also a new carbon fibre roof, carbon ceramic brake rotors with six-piston callipers (we can hear faint screams of joy from the enthusiasts), BMW's active M differential and damper controls.

The new M6 coupe will debut in Geneva in March 6 while the convertible will hit show floors at the New York Motor Show in April.
