Looks familiar? Yes? That’s because this is the same i8 supercar Tom Cruise took around the streets of Mumbai in Mission Impossible 4. The only difference is that this is the new i8 Concept Spyder and it only hints at the car inching closer towards production. Audi has already announced that their R8 E-Tron electric supercar will be launched by this year end and from the looks of it, BMW is hinting at a real production run of this electric supercar.
This hybrid supercar is powered by a 131 hp electric motor upfront, driving the front wheels, coupled to a mid-mounted 1.5-litre turbocharged three-pot motor that powers the rear wheels with 223 hp. The combined power output is nearly 354 hp and a torque figure of 56 kgm, which results in a 0-100 kph run in less than 5 seconds and a top speed of 250 kph! Impressive! Even more impressive is the fact that this car, despite the performance, will manage nearly 33 kpl, according to the EPA cycle. The best of both worlds, eh? Courtesy extensive use of high-performance lightweight materials and a near 50:50 weight distribution, we expect handling to be right up there. The future doesn’t look so bad after all, does it?
