Finally Volkswagen has launched its much-awaited Polo at the Auto Expo. It will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant is equipped with a 1.2-litre engine that puts out 75 bhp at 5,400 rpm and a torque of 110 Nm at 3,750 rpm. The diesel variant also comes powered by a 1.2-litre engine that makes 75bhp at 4,200 rpm and torque of 180 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The car comes with a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Polo will be available in three trim levels including Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
It comes with storage compartments in front door pockets that are able to hold 1-litre bottles. In addition to this there are sunglass holders within the glove box. The car has a single folding rear seat backrest.
The Polo highline has large 15” alloy wheels, giving it a higher and more commanding stance. In terms of safety it is equipped with Advanced occupant safety with Dual airbags, driver and passenger side, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and electronic Anti-theft immobilizer.
On comfort the car has a number of unique, thoughtful touches. It is equipped with CD MP3 Player changer with 4 speakers, power steering for better drivability, central locking with unique boot opener in company logo, height adjustable driving seats with a steering wheel tilt which improves the drivability of the passenger.
Asked about the pricing of the car, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd, member of Board and Director Neeraj Garg said it would be very competitive and in the range of Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20 and Skoda Fabia.
The exact pricing would be announced once the car reaches dealers in March, he said.
Garg said that the company intends to roll out a sedan on the Polo platform in the second half of 2010. However, before that racing version of the Polo would be rolled out in June.
Currently, Volkswagen sells its model through 40 dealers across the country.
