Well, now they've done it. Audi has plonked the brilliant 4.2-litre high-revving engine from the RS5 coupe into the practical body of the A4 avant. What that gets you is 450 hp of V8 goodness which you can use to drop-off your kids at school and bring home the groceries in and such.

The engine will be hand-build at Audi's plant in Hungary and will give immense pleasure to whoever is in charge of the accelerator. Launch control makes an appearance here, allowing the driver to get away from a stop to 100 kph in a mere 4.7 seconds.

That's not the whole story though, the car is quite fuel efficient too, thanks to clever selection of ratios in the seven-speed S-tronic gearbox. The longer gear ratios at the top enable you to cruise along while getting around 9 kpl.
