Audi's smallest saloon, the A4 has gone through a facelift, some added features and a marginal change in the price. The facelifted A4 starts at Rs 27.33 lakh, ex-showroom, Maharashtra, which makes it Rs 70,000 cheaper than the outgoing car, despite the change in duties due to the budget and the addition of features.

The facelifted A4, like the current model will be assembled at Audi's facilities at Aurangabad, where the A6, Q5 and the upcoming Q3 are also put together. On the outside, the facelift yields the A4 a new set of headlamps that are not unlike the ones on the A6 and a black grille if it's a V6 powered one. At the rear, the tail lights have tweaked ever so slightly.

On the inside, the A4 now gets Audi's Drive Select System with five driving modes and a newer MMI system on the whole that is more intuitive to use. And yes, a Start-Stop system as well to help you save that wee bit more on your fuel bills each month. The A4 now gets a lot of features that are found on the A6 and A8.

As far as the motors go, there are a couple of changes. The 1.8 TFSI produces about 10 more hp, taking the horsepower count to 170. The 2.0 TFSI, 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI stay more or less the same, the latter gets about five more hp. The 3.0 TDI is available as a CBU (completely built unit). Audi is even considering bringing in the S4, the hottest version which is powered by a 333 bhp, supercharged 3.0-litre petrol V6. Other mechanical changes include a more direct steering system, which is great news.

Overall the fuel efficiency of the A4 is now up by 10 per cent. The 1.8 TFSI now delivers 15.64 kpl, while the 2.0 TDI is now up to 16.55 kpl according to ARAI figures.

It's also the first Audi to come with a package called the Audi Car Life. It combines financing, service insurance and extended warranty. It will eventually be offered on the A6, A8, Q5 and Q7 models as well.

The prices of the new A4 are as follows, ex-showroom, Maharashtra

Audi A4 1.8 TFSI  (125 kW) - Rs 27.33 lakh
Audi A4 2.0 TDI (105 kW) - Rs 29.38 lakh

Audi A4 3.0 TDI (180 kW) - Rs 38.00 lakh
