Winners of the World Car Awards were announced yesterday at the ongoing New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). The World Car Awards included jury from North America, Europe and Asia. The motoring journalists individually tested the vehicles in their respective category and voted for the best and the panel then selected the winners from the voting.

2014 World Car of the Year – Audi A3
Audi A3 won the 2014 World Car of the Year coveted award at the awards ceremony on April 17th in New York. The finalists of the 2014 World Car of the Year were Mazda 3 and BMW 4-Series. The journalists find the car thrilling and very much affordable compared to the rest. Audi has really hit a sweet spot with the 2014 Audi A3, whether it comes to pricing, performance or practicality. The Audi A3 is indeed coming to India later this year, the company showcased the sedan and cabriolet at the Indian Auto Expo.
2014 World Green Car of the Year; 2014 World Car Design of the Year - BMW i3
Bavaria automaker has nailed it this time – the BMW i3 bagged two awards green car and best design. We certainly don't doubt that, the BMW's first all electric vehicle is highly capable fossil fuel free machine! The finalist in the Green Car of the Year were Audi Sportback G-Tron and Volkswagen XL1.
As far as design awards is concerned, BMW i-range is as futuristic outside as it is inside, i3 nabbed World Car Design of the Year beating Mazda 3 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
2014 World Performance Car of the Year - Porsche 911 GT3
Porsche's range topper in the 911 series the Porsche 911 GT3 took home the quintessential 2014 World Performance Car of the Year. The German's were in a tough tiff with the Americans; 911 GT3 beats its closest rivals which is also the runner-up at the end - Chevy Corvette Stingray while the third position goes to Italians - Ferrari 458 Speciale.
The GT3 is possibly the best you can get from the 911 – the 911 GT3 produce 475Hp and a maximum torque of 440Nm, with a top whack exceeding over 300kmph. Ironically the same GT3 edition were recalled recently for the engine bay catching fire issue although the German manufacturer has planned to replace engines of all the affected vehicle.
2014 World Luxury Car of the Year - Mercedes-Benz S Class
'The world's best automobile' as Mercedes-Benz says won the 2014 World Luxury Car of the Year – Mercedes-Benz S Class. World Luxury Car of the Year is the new edition to the awards among the rest four. Merc has really lifted manifold this with the S Class, representing their motto of 'Best or Nothing' at its best! The MB saloon left behind Bentley Flying Spur and Range Rover Sport.
Seems like German got all the world cars awards this year leaving American and Britishers aside! . You name it, they have it - performance, luxury, green, design, all the awardees though arch rivals but are German.
