Yes, you read that right, the new Volvo V40, unveiled recently at the Geneva motor show, comes with an airbag for the pedestrian you've just run into. The hood opens upward and the airbag covers the windshield and A-pillars to give the person a soft surface to land on. Apart from that, the V40 also comes with an auto brake system which applies the brakes in case it detects an obstacle on the road.
The V40 is one of the first models of Volvo to come out after the Chinese automaker Geely has taken over the company and it shows that the new owners are still keeping the focus of the brand on safety.
The V40 aims to replace the C30 and S40 models internationally. By offering premium features in a compact package, it appeals to people who want to downgrade to a smaller, more efficient car but don't want to give up any creature comforts.
There are no plans on bringing it to India, but if it does come, it will compete with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Audi A3.
