Mahindra's 3-wheelers can now boast of also being the world's first hydrogen 3-wheeler. The HyAlfa, based on the Alfa 3-wheeler range is part of the the DelHy-3W project, a JV between Mahindra, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi).

The three-year long and USD 1 million project was co-funded by all three organisations. Hydrogen is a carbon-free fuel and carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of sulphur and particulates are totally absent from the exhaust. The only by-product is water, while it offers a terrific fuel consumption of 80 kilometres to one kilogram of hydrogen.

Mahindra has produced 15 of these vehicles, with IIT Delhi providing technical expertise on this project. Air Products USA has acted as a partner and has provided a refueling station at Pragati Maidan where the fleet will be currently operating.

...and Honda made a hydrogen celled complete car the FCX Clarity few years back and available only in USA at the moment. Which is better? Auto rickshaw or car? The challenge is to find a technology to store hydrogen and make it viable and readily available. As we know hydrogen does not exist on it own hence the challenge..

Sir, I think there should be one in every city of India. This will give Hydrogen powered vehicles a big boost.
