  • Mclaren debuted the MP4-12C at Goodwood this year. Jenson Button did the honors and drove it up Goodwood hill to complete the ceremony. This is Mclaren’s second car to be debuted, after the coupe.
  • The car is capable of hitting 328kmph around 5kmph down on the coupe. But it retains the coupes 0-100kmph time of 3.1 seconds.
  • The roof has been chopped off. The loss in rigidity has been made up with increased chassis strengthening increasing the weight by 40kg’s over the coupe.
  • The roof mechanism itself is very innovative. While down, it can be stowed in the area just behind the seats. A glass screen between the two head rests can be operated independently of the roof. This can act as a windbreak with the roof down, or for ventilation with the roof up.
  • Due to the innovative roof mechanism, the car has retained its glass engine cover, something the 458 Italia had to forgo.
  • The roof can be put up/ down at speeds of up to 30kmph. And it takes about 17 seconds to set into position.
  • Other changes include an audio and HVAC system that adapts to the environment depending upon the status of the roof. Apart from it’s obvious party piece, the car retains the same 616bhp engine from the coupe which was recently upgraded.
  • The car will be priced at a premium as compared to the coupe, with a difference of about Rs. 17,00,000 over the coupe. Not coming to India anytime soon though, so drool on for the time being!
