  • Motorcycles will come and go, and there might be faster, scarier or more soul-stirring litre-bikes out there but there’s always been one litre-bike that’s forever been the easiest one for you to hop on and go fast – the Honda Fireblade. This is the 2012 model, a subtle evolution of the series
  • Big horsepower figures always sell in the sportsbike world but Honda knows better than to just put in more power. Not to say that the Fireblade is slow – it’s got a super meaty midrange and a screamin’ top-end, helped in no small amounts by a competent, Supersport-size chassis
  • The bodywork has been subtly refined for 2012 with tweaks to the layered fairing design and the nose to aid aerodynamics and high-speed stability. The biggest change in the terms of handling comes in the form of the new dead-zone eliminating ‘Balance Free’ Showa shock absorber at the back
  • There is hardly any electronic wizardry involved – no traction control, no wheelie control, no engine mapping modes. Just pure engineering geared towards ridability and optimal man-machine interfacing. It does come with Honda’s Combined Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) that links front and rear brakes
  • The subtly honed 2012 Fireblade is now the purest of the class, with only a few electronics involved and focus on pure old-school engineering. Its remains one of Europe’s highest selling litre-bikes and continues to show that the Big Red knows what it’s doing.
