Route
Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Vellore - Kancheepuram - Chennai - Kanchipuram - Chittoor - Kolar - Bangalore

Distance
410 km

Best Part
NH-7 and NH-46. World-class highways. You can be at your max speed through out. NH-4. Chittoor to Bangalore. Very scenic and curvy. An enjoyable motorcycle ride. Though ride safely!

Description
The National Highways as part of the Golden Quad Project are simply world class. The ride is extremely smooth. One can easily maintain a cruise speed of 80+. Topping your speedo is not at all a problem. Though you've gotta watch out for Mad mikes who can appear from nowhere right onto the middle of the road from any direction, especially when you approach small towns and villages. Though NH-4 makes good motorcycle road, a little dangerous, being 2-lane roads. No reason why one should take NH-4 unless you want to avoid tolls on NH-7. But 100 bucks(not for motorcycles! ;)) is worth paying for it. If you are planning to travel in the night, have a good sense of direction( Carry a map n compass). Just a couple of deviations can be misleading. And not many people understand english! The roads are too tempting not to take breaks. But to have the will to take breaks often. Remember, Your vehicle might need rest!

Stopovers
Krishnagiri has a no. of small tea-stalls. 2 buck tea was amazing! Vellore is a nice little town with a no. of small cafes. While coming back I spotted in Chittoor and Kolar a no. of Dhabhas. Cheap food.

Fuel Stations
No. of Fuel stations dotted through out. Lot of reliance bunks coming up/present throughout the highway on either routes

Tips
Though NH-4 makes good motorcycle road, a little dangerous, being 2-lane roads. If you are planning to travel in the night, Carry a map n compass. Do have the will to take breaks often. Roads too good not to!

Mistake in Distance

I think the distance from B to C in any route is not more than 370 km. So Bang to krishnagiri is NH-7, from there t Chennai is NH-46 Chitoor route is NH-4 right?

Hi, I prefer Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Vellore - Kancheepuram - Sriperambathur - Chennai. because the roads are good. I enjoy in car driving. But, there are some hurdles which will bring the stress. 1. Vehicles are coming quiet opposite. 2. Not using the left/right signals while taking left/right. 3. Suddenly left/right 4. Lighting problems Otherwise, we can enjoy the trip. Regards Paulra

Best Driveways around Bangalore

Hi We are regulars on Bangalore-Chennai road and have always taken the Vellore road (not Chittor). Its really a world class road and having been on Mumbai-Pune Expressway,Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Agra,Hassan-Belur ,Mumbai-GUjarat(Surat/Ahm'bad),a host of other NHs/State hughways , I can say without doubt that this is one amongh the best in class roads. Lots of food joints at every place, some good scenic places around Vaniyambnadi, Vellore and a bliss of touching 140-150 kmph on my car..Its an amazing road.

Night Drive Bangalore to Chennai via Krishnagiri

Posted by Sanjay on Wed, 11 July 2007 (permalink)
Last week I took the NH7, NH46, NH4 to Chennai, started at 11:00 pm from Bangalore. By 3:30 am I was in Chennai, fantastic road. I drove mostly between 80-100. Yes the lure of not taking breaks exists, I did not take any. However, the road is such, I do not think my car also had any adverse effects.

Dear Frinds, I frequently travel through NH-46. Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Vaniyambadi - Ambur - Vellore - Ranipet - Sriperumbuthur - Chennai. This is one of the best roads in India. You can drive without any tension. There are many scenic spots with mountains near Vellore - Ambur - Vaniyambadi. Yelagiri near Vaniyambadi is a small unpolluted hill station.

I tried thrice with my pulsar to chennai via hosur, krishnagiri,Vellore ,Kancheepuram,Sriperambathur, chennai first time i did a mistake when i started in the office hours, horrible experiance with jaywalkers till krishnagiri. Second time i started by 4.30 AM and reached comfortably without much pains all the way. third time also i tried by 400am and had good luck with tire punctures :) early morning hours is the pretty comfortable hours towards chennai i guess.

Bangalore-Chennai Excellent Roads!!!

I read this page a day before I started the trip which helped me in my journey. Well we started on 18th Jan around 07:00 AM and reached Chennai at 12:00 with 2 breaks one for refeuling the car and second for refeuling us(breakfast, a total of 340 Kms. 2 weeks back I travelled to Tirupati route which is the same route diverting at some place for Chennai. But this route was way better than that. My Alto crossed 125 KMph on quite few occassions and was 100+ throughout. Paying 150Rs Toll-tax for these kinda roads are worth. Just a word of caution, there are a lot of Jaywalkers when the highway reaches some town and you will also find some vehicles in the opp direction,Beaware. I rammed into a heard of cows and was lucky to escape without hurting. We had planned to leave Chennai at 06:00 but we could not sleep due to mosquitos. Mosquitos chased us out of Chennai and we started at 04:30 AM.

We took NH4 (Chittoor - Kolar) on our way towards Bangalore. Though the route was very scenic with lots of trees, the roads were badly battered. There were quite large pot holes which caught us by surprise. As our trip was in the day, I had just enough time to brake sufficiently to avoid breaking my axle. Also, the vehicles coming on the opposite direction jumped offtrack and were driving headon to avoid their share of pot holes. Moreover after reaching Hoskote traffic started to move at a snails pace. It took more than two hours from Hoskote to reach my destination (LotteGollaHalli). We firmly decided that our return trip will be via Hosur-Krishnagiri route NH46. This route was very smooth. This was again a day trip and we had tough time reaching upto Electronics city, but from there I maintained a constant speed of 110. The snails pace started again when we reached Porur. It took one and half hours to reach my destination at Adambakkam. Next time it'll be a night trip to save time.

Bangalore-Chennai Expressway travel- June 15, 2008

Left bangalore at 6 10 a.m. the expressway is a scenic drive through Hosur, krishnagiri, vellore. the red alto was just about a yr old. Dad and I took turns driving. we were driving at about 80-100 kmph. we hardly overtook any vehicles on the way. Most cars drive at 100-140 kmph and they stormed past us.Not many good places to have food on the way especially after krishnagiri. so when you spot an eating joint, do grab the chance to stop for few min. maintain uniform speed, it gives mileage of about 21 km/ litre for alto. as before my only caution to enthusiasts is when you approach small towns and villages, you find vehicles coming towards you on your lane itself. besides, jaywalkers think the NH is a garden path. toll fee (there are 5 toll booths) totals Rs 160. we took 2 breaks for snacks for about 15 min each. we reached chennai at 12 40.[kotturpuram, near Adayar] the chennai traffic after Porur is slow and hence we did about 25 km in 60 min - this was a bit tedious.

Recently drove to chennai from bangalore on omni 7 adults and 3 childerns. The new high way layout is good, good road marking, well signed boards. The drive was average because the roads were little bit bumppppy like little waves in a lake. The most important thing is drive safe at safe speed as you may not know " what comes where in which direction ". Some may be taking U turn, can see cows in the road mediation and some vechiles in opposite direction. Always drive very carefully in such roads and don't risk yours and others life just because of speed. Happy Safe driving, Kam

Bangalore to Chennai travelled on 21/09/2008

My Dream road to drive in. We started from Bangalore at 11 PM and reached Chennai by 4 AM. Again, next day we started from Chennai at 5 PM and reached bangalore by 9 PM (just 4 hours). Both the times, we had around 15 mins break. The vehicle is Ford Escort. Speed range 100 to 140 KM.

Be careful to take left turn before the flyover of Krishnagiri. Lots of people miss this and takes over flyover but realizes late, almost after 3 to 4 kms (Ofcourse, though I travelled 3 times in this route, missed this time). Just before entering City around poonamalle area roads are really bad enough. Total distance comes around 360 KM. I liked the night time driving, excellent marks and reflection points on road make you feel like you are driving in international road or driving in some gaming zone. All the best.

trip to chennai, pondi from bangalore

Posted by kunal on Tue, 30 December 2008 (permalink)
This Christmas weekend, I've Just completed my trip from Bangalore to Chennai, Pondi. (On my bike- TVS Flame 125cc) I took Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Vellore-Chennai. Tell you the roads are awesome and though I am a novice driver, I completed the Bangalore-Chennai in 7 hours.. (started at 12:00 noon and reached chennai at 7pm). then coming back, I got a little late in the evening, started at 4:30 and reached Bangalore at 11:30pm... night driving is no problem on this road. Chennai to Pondi is 140 Kms and thats a good road too (though only 2 lanes). Do go to pondi, and by no way you can miss mahabalipuram (or malmallapuram) which is just 45 kms from chennai on the pondi road.. cool places both of them. The Bangaloreans can't miss the beaches ;-)
